For the Love of Art

This eclectic design is all about celebrating art and interesting pieces. In order to create a unified space with so many interesting forms in it I chose to keep the color palate limited without it feeling too restrained.

We will start with the sofa. This modern Kardiel sofa sets the tone for the room with a bold silhouette and wide vertical stripes. It is not a subtle piece, complimented with two Mid-Century Modern Leather arm chairs in a warm camel, the space draws one in. A single vintage chair upholstered in a warm tones sheep skin adds to the eclecticism of the design. In the center a large marble plinth coffee table provides a visual anchor on the warm toned traditional area rug.

Antique pieces are used liberally throughout the design together with modern pieces they create a space with a sense of timelessness. A vintage wooden buffet in black with brass pulls pairs with a large abstract painting hung on a grasscloth wallpaper with a vaguely asian influence. Accent tables throughout the space are vintage pieces collected from different styles and times. A terra-cotta elephant is an especially interesting piece. Two contemporary ottomans echo the forms and colors of the sofa. A small victorian painting of two women reflects the love of different art styles.

For lighting, a large modern chandelier provides overhead interest. Wall sconces flank the abstract painting and echo the shape of the chandelier with their own unique take. Elsewhere floor lamps and table lamps are kept simple but interesting.

Walls, woodwork and trim are painted with three different neutral tones of black, cream and white to unify the space while creating interest and moods.

Interesting art pieces are liberally sprinkled throughout the space and can easily be added to as new pieces are found and curated.

As with all of my designs - I try to create designs that reflect personality.

Let's get creative!
